Q: I can't connect to the mail server. Why?
A:

This happens sometimes if the changes in the Internic database have not been propagated throughout the Internet yet, which can take 2-4 days. However some ISP's DNS keep cached information much longer. Follow the steps below to locate the source of the problem if propagation takes longer than 4 days.

To verify that your ISP's DNS resolves MX (mail exchange) record for your domain to correct IP address do the following:

  1. Ping your mail server by executing at command prompt ping mail.my_domain.com. Note the IP address. it shud be the same ip as mention in your welcome message .
  2. If the IP addresses are the same, then you need to check on your e-mail program configuration to make sure that it conforms with the recommended settings - Article 594.

If the IP addresses are different, you need to make sure that Internic record for your domain is actually updated. If the domain record is updated, you need to contact your ISP with the request to check on their DNS settings. or contact our support executive in this case
